 Located at Xiaoheshan Higher education area of Hangzhou, Zhejiang Forestry Academy was founded in 1958. As the only public forestry research institution in the province, ZFA has higher comprehensive strength in China. Research interests cover many forestry-related subjects, including silviculture, forest ecology, forest pest control, chemical processing of forest products, forest food, horticulture, technology and standard, bio-technology and new material, etc. There are two provincial key labs on bamboo and on bio and chemical utilization of forest resources in the academy.
There is a staff team of strong basis, high level and reasonable structure in the academy. The number of scientists and technicians is 87, of which 57% are post-doctorate, doctorate and master, the number of senior researchers is 34, master instructors 10. There are 10 researchers (including retired) having the State Council special allowance, 19 are included in the “151 Talent Project”.
In the past 50 years, ZFA implemented 528 programs like national key research projects, provincial key projects, projects from State Natural Sciences Foundation and provincial one. 275 scientific and technological results have gained, among which, 13 national awards, 121 provincial ones, 46 patents. Up to now, researchers published 54 monographs, 526 academic articles on core journals at home and abroad. Achievements include 56 improved varieties of forest tree (provincial validation) and 24 national or local industrial standards. ZFA has advantages on tree cultivation, forest ecology, intensive processing of forest products, edible fungi, etc. Many scientific and technological results have been extended and applied to production, and it has gained remarkable economic, social and ecological benefits.
ZFA will be a first-class provincial forestry research institution in China by improving the ability of scientific innovation, enhancing integrated capacity.
